Is Theatre Just For Posh People?
IS THEATRE JUST FOR POSH PEOPLE:
An Arts Industry Event
A recording of feedback from our one-day-event for Arts industry professionals in the heart of Matson.
Matson, Gloucester’s largest housing estate, actively exploring the question “Is theatre just for posh people?” co-hosted by GL4 festival, Strike A Light and Create Gloucestershire and fabulously supported by Gloucester Services.
Over the last year Strike A Light’s conversation and action around diversity has thought about class:
How do we engage with the predominantly working class audiences who live in Matson, Gloucester’s largest social housing estate?
Gloucester is traditionally known as an area of low cultural engagement, with areas in wards, including Matson ranking in the most deprived fifth of neighbourhoods nationally.
In 2016 we started to work collaboratively with Matson residents and co- produced their first theatre festival; the GL4 Festival.
The GL4 Festival entered its third season in October 2017 and proudly co-hosted this national industry event, Is theatre just for posh people?, with Strike A Light and Create Gloucestershire.
