Deadline for applications 22nd March, 10am

One of the highlights of the Roundhouse calendar, the Poetry Slam is back. The Slam offers young poets from across the UK the chance to compete for the coveted Slam Champion title plus a top prize of ÂŁ600.

There is nothing quite like a Roundhouse Poetry Slam final: an atmosphere of encouragement and anticipation against the backdrop of the legendary Roundhouse. Could you be one of our 15 finalists this year?

This year, we will be running heats in Gloucester, London and Hull. Those who make it through the first round of heats in Gloucester and Hull will go through to the London heats.

Judges and hosts will be announced soon.

Key dates

Initial heat: Gloucester 2 May

London Poetry Slam final 6th June

You must be available for both the Gloucester heats and the final in London.

How it works

  1. Complete an application form, including links to video footage of you performing a poem you have written.
  2. We will invite a shortlist to perform in the first heats of the poetry slam in the Roundhouse Sackler Space (16, 17, 18 of May 2019)
  3. The winners of the first heats will be taken through to the Slam Final in the Main Space (6 of June 2019)

What will I get from taking part?

By the end of the project you will:

  • Have showcased your talent in front of large audiences at Gloucester Guildhall, the semi-finals in the Sackler Space, and the Roundhouse Main Space if you get through to the final.
  • Have made industry contacts and networked with peers and professionals in the spoken word industry.
  • Have had the opportunity to compete for the title of Slam Champion
  • All finalist performances will be professionally filmed and uploaded to the Roundhouse YouTube Channel, which has over 12,000 subscribers. Past poetry slam winner videos have accumulated up to 100,000 views.
  • The slam will be judged by industry experts. Judges announced soon!
