Ended: Call out for Dance Artists: Restless R&D Lab

Restless

Restless Research and Development Lab 12 & 13 Sept 2018

Call out for 3 dance artists with lived experience of childhood abuse and/or domestic violence

Pavilion Dance South West, Bournemouth

£200 bursary offered to cover expenses

Restless is an arts activism project for survivors of trauma including childhood abuse and domestic violence. The project uses walking and creativity to speak up, protest and stand in solidarity against abuse and violence. Restless is led by artist Viv Gordon who is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. She says “Restless uses the idea of walking in a challenging landscape as a metaphor for abuse survival and the imagery of the sea as an inspiration for activism – the sea never gives up, it just keeps on coming no matter what. Now we are finding our voice as survivors – there is no stopping us – we are restless for change.”

Viv is keen to hear from dance artists with lived experience of childhood abuse and/or domestic violence to take part in a 2 day lab which she will co-lead with Dance Artist Batel Magen and Producer Sarah Blowers. The lab will explore early ideas around finding a movement language for the authentic articulation of trauma and recovery by bodies with lived experience, with a relaxed sharing at the end of the second day.

Due to the nature of the work we will approach the subject matter slowly and carefully mindful of the safety, confidentiality and access needs of participants. The group size will be kept to 6 members – 3 core team and 3 participants – to enable this exploration. The work will draw on our lived experiences and is therefore only suitable for participants who have extensively processed their story through counselling or therapy, have an established support system, self-manage well and feel ready to share their story with others in a safe and supported space.

The £200 bursary can be used to pay for any lab related expenses including travel, accommodation, food and support. Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodation and can invoice for the full amount after completing the lab.

Please apply with a short statement (up to 2 sides of A4) detailing your interest and suitability for the role including any training and professional experience. Please include a link to video of you dancing. Please include any information about your access needs.
